Geirangerfjord
A 15-kilometre-long UNESCO-listed fjord widely regarded as the most scenic in Norway. Flanked by steep, 1,400-metre cliffs draped in waterfalls — including the Seven Sisters and the Suitor — it represents the pinnacle of Norwegian fjord scenery.
Best Time

Northern Lights (Tromsø)

Bryggen Wharf
A UNESCO World Heritage row of colourful Hanseatic wooden commercial buildings lining Bergen's old harbour. Dating from the 14th century, Bryggen was the western point of the Hanseatic League's network across northern Europe.

May to September for warm evenings when the buildings glow at golden hour. Winter transforms Bryggen with Christmas markets and snow-capped rooftops.

Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock)
A massive flat-topped cliff rising 604 metres sheer above the Lysefjord, with a roughly 25×25-metre plateau at the top. One of Norway's most famous natural landmarks, it requires a 4-kilometre hike each way through dramatic Nordic terrain.
Best Time
May to October when the trail is snow-free. July and August are peak season; arriving at 7am gives you the summit largely to yourself with stunning morning light.

Lofoten Islands
A dramatic archipelago north of the Arctic Circle, where jagged granite peaks plunge directly into mirror-calm sea straits. Traditional red and yellow fishermen's cabins (rorbuer) dot the shores, and the islands offer world-class surfing, fishing, hiking, and photography.

Trolltunga
A horizontally protruding piece of rock that juts out 700 metres above Lake Ringedalsvatnet. Trolltunga (Troll's Tongue) is one of Norway's most photographed landmarks and requires a serious 27-kilometre round-trip hike through alpine terrain.

Flåm Railway (Flåmsbana)
Ranked among the world's most beautiful railway journeys, the 20-kilometre Flåmsbana descends 863 metres from Myrdal on the Bergen Railway down through gorges, past waterfalls, and along the Aurlandsfjord to the village of Flåm.

Vigeland Sculpture Park
The world's largest sculpture park by a single artist, containing 212 bronze, granite, and wrought-iron sculptures by Gustav Vigeland (1869–1943) spread across 80 acres of Frogner Park. The centrepiece is the 17-metre-tall Monolith, carved from a single block of granite.

Alesund
A uniquely beautiful Art Nouveau city built largely between 1904–1907 after a devastating fire destroyed the original town. Ålesund sits on a series of islands with sea channels running between them, creating a stunning backdrop of fjords and dramatic mountains.

Borgund Stave Church
The best-preserved Viking-age stave church in the world, built around 1180 AD. The church is constructed entirely of wood without the use of nails, using the ancient Norse stave technique — its layered, dragon-headed rooflines give it an almost pagoda-like silhouette.

Hardangerfjord
Norway's second-longest fjord at 179 kilometres, renowned for its combination of deep blue waters, massive glaciers, and the spectacular Hardanger Plateau. The orchard district around Ulvik produces Norway's finest fruit and is famous for its spring blossom.

Sognefjord
The King of the Fjords — Norway's longest (204km) and deepest (1,308m) fjord. Sognefjord branches into numerous spectacular arms including the narrow Nærøyfjord (UNESCO World Heritage), Lusterfjord, and the Aurlandsfjord.

May to September for fjord cruises and hikes. The Nærøyfjord by kayak in June with snow still on the peaks above is extraordinary.

Norwegian Scenic Routes – Atlanterhavsveien
The Atlantic Ocean Road, built across a series of small islands and reefs in the open Atlantic, is considered one of the world's most beautiful drives. The road's distinctive arched bridges curve over the churning sea with no guardrail on the ocean side.

Jostedalsbreen Glacier
The largest glacier in continental Europe, covering 487 square kilometres on the Jostedalsbreen plateau. Its many arms, including the famous Briksdalsbreen and Nigardsbreen, flow down into lush green valleys and icy-blue glacial lakes.

National Museum Oslo
Norway's largest art, architecture, and design museum, opened in 2022 in a spectacular new building on the Oslo waterfront. It houses over 400,000 artworks including Edvard Munch's 'The Scream' (1893 version) and Norway's most comprehensive collection of Norwegian and international fine art.

Ålesund Art Nouveau Centre
Located in the old Sunnmøre Museum building, the Art Nouveau Centre documents the remarkable story of Ålesund's reconstruction after the 1904 fire, when the city was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style by a generation of young Norwegian architects trained in Germany.

Nærøyfjord
A narrow arm of the Sognefjord, just 250 metres wide at its narrowest point, with walls rising 1,700 metres on either side. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and widely considered the world's most beautiful fjord. Waterfalls pour directly into the fjord from the cliff tops.
Best Time
May to September for boat and kayak access. June and September offer the most dramatic atmospheric conditions with mist clinging to the cliffs.

Kjeragbolten
A boulder wedged in a crevice on the Kjerag mountain, 1,000 metres above the Lysefjord. The photograph of a person standing on the rock with nothing but air and fjord below is one of Norway's most iconic images. The hike to reach it is challenging but non-technical.

June to September when the trail is snow-free. Avoid weekends in July for shorter queues at the boulder.

Røros
A UNESCO World Heritage mining town founded in 1646 whose remarkably intact log-building townscape has survived 375 years. The smelting works, church, and 80 protected buildings create one of the finest examples of a pre-industrial Nordic mining town in existence.
Best Time
February is magical with deep snow and the famous Røros Market (Rørosmartnan). Summer (June–August) is warm and the surrounding fells are good for hiking.

Jotunheimen National Park
Home to Norway's highest mountains including Galdhøpiggen (2,469m) and Glittertind (2,465m), plus Norway's largest glaciers and the dramatic Besseggen ridge walk. 'Jotunheimen' means 'Home of the Giants' — a name utterly appropriate for its scale.
Best Time
Late June to mid-September. The Besseggen ridge walk requires a boat across Lake Gjende; boats run from late June.
